LinkedIn Limits 2026: Connection Requests, Messages, InMail

LinkedIn's Help Center has pages on types of restrictions, how long they last and what causes them. None says how many connection requests you can send a week. The "100 a week" going around comes from companies that sell LinkedIn tools and from people testing their own accounts. Probably close, but worth a question mark.

At LeadBound we run outreach from the client's existing profile, with no new account and no warm-up (how that's built), so a restricted account means a CEO who can't send a connection request for a week.

How many connection requests can you send on LinkedIn per week?

About 100 a week, based on field reports as of 2026. LinkedIn itself doesn't publish a number.

Overloop, an outbound software company, wrote in July 2026 that the reported figure is about 100 requests in a rolling seven-day window, and says plainly it's a field estimate. Evaboot wrote in 2025 that accounts with a high SSI score and good engagement sometimes reach up to 200. Both sell LinkedIn tools, so factor that in.

A rolling window never resets on a fixed day, such as Sunday morning when the Israeli week starts: each request leaves the count seven days after you sent it. SSI (Social Selling Index) is LinkedIn's score for a profile's selling activity: brand, finding people, engagement and relationships. More terms are in the outbound glossary.

What LinkedIn's Help Center does say:

What's the difference between a free account, Premium and Sales Navigator?

A paid plan adds InMail and, depending on the plan, unlimited personal notes and a higher search quota. It doesn't add connection requests.

Buying Sales Navigator for more connection requests will disappoint. For deeper search and InMail it's worth a look: Overloop reports up to 2,500 results per search in Sales Navigator, against 1,000 on a free account.

How many messages and InMails can you send?

Messages to first-degree connections have no official number. InMail has an exact monthly quota by plan.

Overloop suggests 10 to 30 first messages a day to new connections. Evaboot writes that there's no official limit and recommends staying under 150 a day. A fivefold gap between two sources mostly says nobody really knows, so I stay at the low end.

InMail is a message to someone you're not connected to, and per the Help Center only paid members can send it. Credits renew monthly and roll over up to the cap in the table. And an InMail that gets a reply within 90 days, even a no, returns the credit. A short, precise InMail ends up far cheaper than a long one nobody answers.

How many profiles can you view and search on LinkedIn?

A free account has a monthly quota for searches and profile views, and LinkedIn doesn't disclose it.

LinkedIn calls it the commercial use limit. It counts profile searches, browsing "People Also Viewed" and viewing profiles through the People tab on a company page. Searching by name in the top search bar, browsing your first-degree connections and job searches don't count.

The quota resets at midnight Pacific Time on the first of each month, which is the morning of the 1st in Israel. LinkedIn says it won't lift the limit on request, and that Premium Business, Recruiter Lite and Sales Navigator members get a higher one. For daily profile views, Overloop reports roughly 80 to 150 on a free account before things slow down, also a field figure.

What triggers a LinkedIn restriction?

According to LinkedIn: many requests in a short time, requests that get ignored, left pending or marked as spam, and suspected automation.

A restriction is a temporary stop on one action, usually sending connection requests. An account restriction, what most people call being blocked, locks the whole account. Per the account restrictions page, it can come from content that breaks policy, a profile that doesn't reflect a real identity, or automation tools.

How long it lasts, per the connection request limits page and the automated activity page:

What happenedHow long, per LinkedIn
First restriction on connection requestsA few hours
Several restrictions in one dayA few days
Too many requests awaiting a responseUp to a month
Most restrictionsLifted automatically within a week
Suspension for automation toolsUntil the date in the notice, after you turn the tool off
Repeat suspensionsCan become permanent

The third row is the easiest to fix, and the easiest to forget.

How do you keep the account safe during outreach?

Send at an even pace, contact only people with a reason to accept, and withdraw old requests.

  1. An even pace. "Many requests in a short time" tops LinkedIn's list. Overloop suggests 10 to 25 requests a day, far better than 90 on Sunday and silence until next week.
  2. A high acceptance rate, the share of requests that get accepted. LinkedIn names ignored and spam-marked requests as a cause, so a precise list protects you: people who fit, with a reason to write now (signal-based selling). Overloop also suggests cutting the next day's volume by 30% to 50% when acceptance drops.
  3. Withdraw old requests. Overloop suggests a weekly cleanup of requests unanswered for three or four weeks. A withdrawn person can't get a new request from you for up to three weeks, and withdrawing won't lift an existing restriction.
  4. Notes only with a real reason. A free account gets three a month. What to write is in LinkedIn sales messages.
  5. Care with automation. LinkedIn prohibits third-party software and extensions that automate activity on the site, which can lead to a temporary or permanent restriction. A tool sold as "safe" doesn't change that: its promise doesn't bind LinkedIn.

No method is risk-free. In our campaigns, daily activity on each profile stays within safe limits, because it's the client's profile, not ours to gamble with.

What do you do if LinkedIn restricted your account?

First check what was restricted, sending requests or the whole account, because each is fixed differently.

  1. Read the notice. It says what was restricted, and sometimes until when.
  2. Only connection requests? Wait. Per the Help Center this usually lasts a week, LinkedIn can't shorten it, and withdrawing requests won't lift it. Use the time to clean your list.
  3. Restricted for automation? Turn the tool off. The account returns automatically on the date in the suspension notice. You can also ask for another review through a contact form, though per LinkedIn that isn't available to everyone yet.
  4. Asked to verify your identity? Verify. Verification runs through Persona, LinkedIn's verification provider, with a valid ID (a national ID card, driver's license or passport) and sometimes a photo of you. You need a smartphone for it.
  5. Come back slowly. Repeat suspensions can become permanent, so restart below the pace that got you restricted.

If you need more volume than one profile can carry quietly, add a channel and keep the profile at a safe pace, as in LinkedIn plus email.

Frequently asked questions

How many connection requests can you send on LinkedIn?

There's no official number. Field reports as of 2026 put it at about 100 a week in a rolling window, and per Evaboot, high-SSI accounts sometimes reach 200.

Does Sales Navigator raise the connection request limit?

As far as is known, no. LinkedIn says the limits apply to Premium members too, and Overloop ties the cap to the account's trust signals. Sales Navigator does add 50 InMail credits a month and a higher search quota.

What is InMail and how many do you get on each plan?

A message to someone you're not connected to, which only paid members can send. As of 2026, per the Help Center: 5 a month on Premium Career, 15 on Premium Business and 50 on Sales Navigator Core.

LinkedIn restricted me. How long does it last?

Per LinkedIn, from a few hours for a first restriction on connection requests to up to a month for too many pending requests. Most lift automatically within a week.

Are automation tools allowed on LinkedIn?

According to LinkedIn, no. Third-party software and extensions that automate activity on the site violate its User Agreement, and using them can lead to a temporary or permanent restriction.
