What Is an SDR? Salary in Israel and Outsourcing vs Hiring

Then comes month three. According to The Bridge Group's 2025 report, a survey of 351 B2B companies, that's how long a new SDR takes on average to fully ramp. It's also when management starts asking where the meetings are.

I think the choice comes down to one question, and the cost spreadsheet can wait: does anyone on your team already know what works in a first message? That's why part of this article will tell you not to hire a vendor like LeadBound, our own company. That's fine.

What is an SDR?

An SDR is the salesperson who creates meetings: opens the conversation with a new customer and hands it on when it's ready.

Leads come inbound, like a form on your site, or outbound, to companies that haven't heard of you. Either way, the SDR checks that the company fits, the person influences the decision, and there's a reason to talk now. The output: a meeting in someone else's calendar, with a note on who's coming and why.

What does an SDR do day to day?

An SDR researches companies and people, writes and sends outreach, follows up on silence, and answers replies until a meeting is booked.

  • Builds lists by the ICP, the ideal customer profile.
  • Looks for a reason to reach out now, like a funding round, a new appointment or hiring (see the hiring signal campaign).
  • Writes email and LinkedIn messages, and at some companies makes calls.
  • Follows up, answers replies, filters out poor fits and books the good ones.
  • Updates the CRM and briefs the AE before the meeting.

Salesforce's State of Sales report from February 2026, a survey of 4,050 salespeople in 22 countries, found the average rep spends 40% of their time actually selling. That covers all salespeople, AEs included, but the rest of the day is familiar: prep, typing, updating systems, which is where the room to improve is.

What is the difference between an SDR, a BDR and an AE?

SDRs and BDRs open conversations, and AEs close deals. The SDR and BDR split varies by company, and often they're two names for one job.

RoleFull nameWhat they doMeasured by
SDRSales Development RepresentativeHandles inbound leads and outbound outreach, qualifies, books meetingsMeetings booked and meetings held
BDRBusiness Development RepresentativeUsually focuses on outbound to new companies and new marketsMeetings and new pipeline
AEAccount ExecutiveRuns the sale from the first meeting to signatureClosed deals and revenue

Commonly, BDRs work outbound only while SDRs also qualify inbound leads, but some companies flip it or don't split at all. Ask what the role is measured by.

The AE receives the meeting, so when an SDR books someone who can't buy, the AE pays with an hour of their calendar. More terms are in the outbound glossary.

How much does an SDR earn in Israel?

According to Payscale, the average base salary of an SDR in Israel is ₪135,749 a year, about ₪11,300 a month, as of December 2025.

That's only 47 reports, so check a second source. Drushim's 2026 salary table (an Israeli job site, with data from the placement firm Jobinfo) has no SDR row. Its closest, high-tech salesperson, shows ₪10,000-12,000 a month with one to three years of experience, ₪12,000-15,000 with three to five, and ₪17,000 and up after five.

Commissions come on top, and Drushim notes they're a large share of sales pay. In The Bridge Group's 2025 survey, median SDR OTE (on-target earnings, total pay at quota) is $80,000 a year: $55,000 base plus $25,000 variable, unchanged since 2022. I found no verified OTE figure for Israel, so I won't give one.

Should you hire an in-house SDR or outsource?

An in-house SDR gives control and knowledge that stays with you, an outsourced SDR gives speed and ready infrastructure, and the real difference is who pays for the learning months.

Money first. An in-house SDR costs salary and employer costs every month, meetings or not, plus tools, infrastructure and a manager's hours, after hiring, onboarding and on average three months to full ramp. A vendor charges a retainer, per meeting or a hybrid, and skips the hiring. It doesn't skip learning your product and testing messages, and new email infrastructure still needs warm-up.

On control, I'm a bit torn. An SDR who sits with you hears about the product daily, at the Sunday team meeting and in the kitchen, and it shows in their objection handling. With a vendor, control means transparency: seeing every message before it goes out, and every reply. But a vendor running several companies' campaigns sees sooner which messages work and which are worn out. So ask what you're missing now: product knowledge or outreach knowledge.

Then turnover. SDRs stay 1.9 years on average, per the same report, and when one leaves, the pace resets and the knowledge leaves too, unless it was documented. With a vendor, the dependency moves from one person to a contract.

What are the pros and cons of sales outsourcing?

Outsourcing buys speed and ready infrastructure, at the cost of product familiarity and dependence on the vendor's transparency.

ModelProsCons
In-house SDRDaily control of the message, deep product knowledge, audience knowledge stays in-houseHiring and ramp months, fixed cost in a weak month, a departure resets the pace, needs a manager
Outsourced SDRNo hiring, existing infrastructure and process, experience from other companies' campaigns, no single point of failureLess product knowledge at first, depends on vendor transparency, you have to check your tone is kept, knowledge stays with the vendor without data access

When is an in-house SDR the better fit?

When the ICP and message are proven, a sales manager has time to coach, the product needs someone who lives it, and you're building a team for years. Then hire. This is the part where I tell you not to work with a vendor like us.

When is an outsourced SDR the better fit?

When you're still testing a message or market, need meetings this quarter, have no one to manage an SDR, or want LinkedIn and email together without building the infrastructure. A third path I like because it isn't final: start with a vendor, find the message that works, then hire in-house with a proven script.

What should you ask an SDR outsourcing company?

Before signing, ask who writes, where messages go out from, who answers, what counts as a meeting, and what stays with you.

  1. Who writes and approves the messages? If the answer is "the system," ask for a real example.
  2. Where do messages go out from? Email: secondary domains, never your main one. LinkedIn: your profile, or someone else's?
  3. Who answers replies? A person or automation, and how does a warm lead reach you?
  4. What counts as a meeting? Minimum role, company size, and what happens on a no-show (on meeting show rates).
  5. What do I see in real time? Every reply and lead, or a month-end report?
  6. Who owns the assets if we part? Lists, conversation history, domains.
  7. How long until the first message? New email infrastructure needs warm-up, so a vendor promising to send tomorrow should explain how.
  8. Who writes the Hebrew? A message that reads like a translation gets deleted. Ask about Israel's spam law too: section 30A of the Communications Law has no general exemption for B2B cold email.

For comparison, here's ours: a human SDR answers replies, LinkedIn messages go out from your existing profile with no new account and no warm-up, email from secondary domains, and every reply, lead and number sits in a platform you see yourself.

Back to month three. An in-house SDR should be near full ramp. With a vendor, check what you've learned about your audience and whether it sits with you.
